CHILLED EGGS.
RELEASE FROM STORES. WITHOUT REGULATION STAMP. COMMITTEE'S ALLEGATION. That large quantities of eggs from cool stores, were being released on the Auckland market for sale- without being stamped "chilled," was asserted last evening at the meeting of the Auckland Egg Export Committee. It was pointed out that eggs so stored for a period up to ten weeks were required by regulation to bear the mark showing "that they were chilled. Additional cool store space has had to be provided for eggs, and it is considered that the retailing of them in this manner, part from the official requirement, is prejudicing the sale of fresh eggs. A deputation consisting of the chairman (Mr. H. A. J. Edgley), Messrs. B. Turner, F. H. Wells and V. A. Ryder and the Government poultry instructor and grader (Mr. E. C. Jarrett) was authorised to submit the complaint to the Auckland Health Officer, Dr. Hughes-. What is said to be an anomaly in connection with the supervision of eggs for market 13 the authority of the Health Department instead of the Poultry Division of the Agricultural Department, whose instructors and graders are closely in touch with the industry. The New Zealand Poultry Association is endeavouring to have this rectified.
