VICAR FAREWELLED.

PRESENTATION AT AVONDALE.

After being associated for nearly three years- with St. Jude's Anglican Church, Avondale, Rev. Alfred Drake has been called to Kamo, Whangarei, to take up the position of , vicar there. Last evening over one hundred parishioners rallied around and gave Mr. and Mrs. Drake a hearty send-olf in the Sunday school hall. Mr. F. H. Walker, vicar's warden and Sunday school superintendent, made a presentation on behalf of 'the parishioners of a purse containin <r a handsome cheque. Mr. Walker referred to the good work the vicar had done, and outlined the many improvements to the buildings that had been carried out since Mr. Drake became vicar. Ho wished them both prosperity and good fortune in their new surroundings. Messrs. J. Shaw and Captain Bennett endorsed the remarks of the speaker, adding that they had known Mr. and Mrs. Drake for many years, and hoped that the parish of Avondale would always be in such capable hands. Mrs. Drake was presented with beautiful bouquets from the Mothers' Union and also the Ladies' Guild.

Mr. Drake acknowledged the gifts and regretted that he was leaving such a band of willing and enthusiastic workers, and he hoped that his successor would be given the same support. Songs were given by Mrs. W. Howie, Miss P. James and Miss Chaplin, Messrs. H. Jessop and J. Roberts. Mr. C. Guinness gave a recitation. The vicar mentioned that Rev. H. T. Goldthorpe will be instituted at the church on .Thursday evening, the service, being conducted by the Ven. Archdeacon Mac Murray. - The singing of "For He's a Jollj Good Fellow" and "Auld Lang Syne" concluded a very enjoyable function.
