Industrialism and Nationalism.
There were two spheres of danger, industrialism and nationalism —and the question was how to bring His influence into play in the international sphere. Every, support should be gven to the League of Nations and the Kellog Pact, and Christians should strive and pray for the spirit of brotherliness and peace. In the world, of industry the Church should aim at the -highest ideal —conditions that would exist when God's Kingdom was finally established.
The speaker said he thought that the great emotional force of idealism of mind and spirit, if conveyed to the young, as Germany used to exalt her people in her attempt at world domin-, ance, might be used by the Church of God to secure peace on earth and goodwill among men. There was nothing to stop the inculcation of this ideal in the minds of the young to-day, showing that every nation had something fro give to the world and that Christ made no national distinctions.
"If we feel daunted at the task set God's Church in establishing His Kingdom on earth, let us remember that the possible secret forces of Nature, as yet unrevealed, are as nothing, compared with the hidden; forces of Nature's Creator. But we must be as diligent, persevering and self-sacrificing as are the scientists in their pursuits of Nature's secrets."
In the course of a scholarly and exhaustive exposition, Archdeacon MacMurray traced the leavening of the truths of Christ as an historic and creative influence upon all civilisations.
