A report that he had interviewed the Minister of Education,; the Hon. H. Atmore, about the scheme to establish a School.of Fine Arts in Auckland, and that he v had the proposal "in black and white" was, made by the registrar of the Auckland University College, Mr. M. R. O'Shea, at a meeting of the council yesterday. A reply from the Minister was being waited for. The inauguration of the school is being sponsored by the University and otjler bodies interested. A report of a meeting attended by members of Parliament for the district, representatives of the City Council, and tiie representative of the Library Committee, Mr. John Barr, . to discuss the acquisition of . the Old Grammar School' site, was read by the president, Sir George Fowlds. Miss Ellen Melville and Mr. Barr had said that tlie sclieme had their whole-hearted approval, and the Grammar School Board had said that it would co-operate in the. .matter provided that adequate compensation was given it elsewhere. The building of. a block for the School of Fine Arts .involves an estimated expenditure of £50,000 to £00,000. It will house the University School of Architecture; the School of' Music, and of Fine Arts. In addition there will be a chamber large enough to supply the needs of the Little Theatre Society, the Amateur Opcratic Society, as well as the more extensive college functions.
