ACCOUNTANT SENT TO GAOL,
FLOUTED PROHIBITION ORDER.
"You have been to Rotoroa' inebriates' island, and you can't be kept there. You have had every chance, so the only thing to do with you is to send you to gaol for three months," Mr. F. K. Hunt, S.M., told William Henry NassauCarnahan, aged 44, an accountant, who appeared at the Police Court to-day on charges of having been drunk and having broken his prohibition order. Mr. Northcroft, instructed by accused's mother, said that accused suffered as the result of. his war injuries. Since being on the island it took very little liquor to affect him. His mother was .frail, and because Carnahan had recently - nja.de. sucll a- nuisance of himself, she could no "longer allow him to remain in her house. He should really be bound' over and ordered to find sureties. He was in feeeipt of -£27 per month, made wp of pension and superannuation. His mother required assistance. Apart from that fact, £27 per month was too mucb money for accused to have, because he spent most of it on liquor. • . , ; . ' ' Sub-Inspector. McCarthy said Carnahan was prohibited on August 31 last. Since then he had broken his order on four occasions. It was a problem just to know, what to do with him.
Accused was sentenced to • three months' imprisonment.
