MUSICAL COMEDY SEASON.
' ; LADY BE GOOD."
The popularity of exceptionally cheap prices for musical comedy is shown by the way the Fuller Musical Comedy Company "is being patronised at His Majesty's Theatre. Musical comedy is always" a winning card, and it Is not surprising'. People go to the theatre to be amused, not to be preached at nor to be instructed. When the average man goes to the theatre he goes for relaxation; he goes elsewhere for his instruction. Musical comedy is the ideal form of entertainiment for a bright care-free evening, and the sort of thing being put on by "the Fuller Company just fills the bill. " For its first change "of programme, the company selected the bright and tuneful "Lady Be Good," of which Aucklanders have pleasant memories. It was a happy choice, and. the company entered into the spirit of the piece with enthusiasm. Not only is the music of '"Lady Be Good" very tuneful, but the situations are amusing and the people have plenty of funny things to say. Mr. Freddie Forbes, who made his mark in "Lido Lady," has an excellent part that just suits his unforced humour. He leads the laughter, and is well backed up by the rest of the principals. Miss Catherine Stewart, the company's attractive soubrette, is also in her element and adds considerably to the gaiety of the evening. While some of the voices in the company might be better, the general effect of the bright musical comedy is so excellent that .everyone enjoys it very much. The quartet, Messrs. O'Keefe, Perrin, Wignall and Webber, again delighted their,, audience and had to respond to many recalls. As in "Lido Lady," the dancing in "Lady Be Good" is excellent, both the ballet and the specialty dancing being thoroughly enjoyable. The" Arntey Brothers and Miss Verna Bain repeated the triumphs they scored in the company's opening production. "Lady Be Good" will be repeated until Friday next, and on Saturday it will be replaced by "Mercenary Mary."
