HAWKE'S BAY MEETING. OPENING DAY TO-MORROW. CUP HAS GOOD ACCEPTANCE. SEVERAL AUCKLANDEBS ENGAGED. The opening day of the Hawke's Bay Trotting Club's meeting will be held tomorrow ano. with a number of Aucklandtrained horses engaged, the fixture will attract more than passing interest at this end. The fields arc particularly big and there is every reason to anticipate the club enjoying a successful gathering. With so many horse? ilaiming more than one engagement it is almost impossible to size up the fields, but the following may be supported in their respective races:— Havelock Handicap.—Parrish Belle. Paul at driving winners, F. Smith, who only arrived from England a few months back, is rather good. The only horses he has had anything to do with have been Linnett the Great, Dillon Huon, Free Advice, First Flight, Nella Dillon and Inverness. The ones he really trained were First Flight, Linnett the Great and Nella Dillon, and he won races with the first two and was placed several times with Nella Dillon. With Free Advice he was just touched oil' in a big handicap, and he drove Inverness to victory at Manawatu oii Wednesday. His record as a driver and trainer in the short time he lias been here is particularly good, and is the best, evidence he is in the first rank as both trainer and driver. He is now private trainer to Mr. W. Johnston at Te Awamutu, and is getting a team together. In addition to Peter Bingen and Cornelian, he has four maidens. They are Prince Pedro, a trotter by Peterwah and pacers by Our Thorpe and Xelson Bingen. There are likely to be sonio warm favourites again, and those nut particular as to the prices offering may be inclined to ■ put any cash they liave tc spare on Parrish Belle again.
