LATE MRS. ANNIE BATES.
MEMORIAL WINDOW. Mr. Arthur L. Ward, of London, has completed a two-light window for erection in Holy Trinity Church, Devonport, to the memory of Mrs. Annie Bates, wife of the Me Canon Bates, vicar of Devonport from 1872 to 1897. The design of the window does not contain representations of human figures, but consists of two crosses flanked with passion flowers. On the crosses are two oval shields, one portraying the symbol of the Trinity and the others the arms of the diocese. Vine leaves, symbolical of the Eucharist, are shown in the apexes. In the tracery above, between the two lights, is a dove, symbolical of the Holy Spirit. The inscription reads: "To the greater glory of God andto the memory of Annie Bates, devoted wife ef Canon Bates. She : served God faithfully in this parish for 25 yeare, and was a true and loyal friend to all,"
