The gift of £100 was the practical way chosen by Dr. R. J. Pope, of Sydney, of , showing his appreciation of the advance made by New Zealand cricket. In making his generous donation to the Dominion Council, Dr-Pope asked that it should go towards the expenses of the New Zealand team's visit to England in 1932.
One of the best known of Sydney's medical practitioners, Dr. Pope is also one of Australia's greatest cricket enthusiasts. In the 'eighties he was a player of more than average ability, and he has never lost his love of the game. For a number of years past Dr. Pope has travelled to England with the Australian team in the capacity of honorary medical adviser. Dr Pope arrived in New Zealand a fewweeks ago with Mr. Hugh Trumble for the purpose of seeing New Zealand in action against the M.C.C. He was, delighted With the advancement /of the Dominion play, and it was this _ that prompted him to show his appreciation in so practical a way. In forwarding his cheque to Mr. E. T. Donnelly, the chairman of the New Zealand Council, Dr. Pope wrote: "I consider that the play of the New Zealanders has improved out of all sight as a result of their last trip to the Old Country."
