POTPOURRI.
(An Old Family Recipe.) To make a simple potpourri, use three liandfuls of clove carnations, gillyflowers and damask roses, one handful of knotted . marjoram, rosemary, lemon thyme, myrtle and lavender, \ oz mint, six bay leaves, the rind of one lemon, I oz cloves. Chop all together,. and put with rose leaves in layers in an earthenware jar, with powdered bay salt between each layer. Make fresh potpourri each year, and keep it in open bowls so that it scents tlie room. If the scent grows faint add a little of the above mixture from a, closed jar always kept in reserve.
