AUSTRALIAN EXPORTS
Serious Decline In Last Three Years. CAUSE OF DECREASE. (Received 1 p.m.) SYDNEY, this day. From 1924-25 to 1928-29 the exports' of produce and merchandise from Australia fell from £159,987,124 to | £140,942,670. This serious decline is not only with overseas countries but with the Dominions, and has resulted in the Minister of Markets, Mr. Parker Moloney, asking Cabinet to establish a commercial intelligence service abroad. Officials attribute the present adverse trade balance to the fact that Australia neglected to advertise extensively overseas between 192G and 1925. Export trade to New Zealand fell from £5,059,779 to £3,868,281, while Canada's exports to New Zealand correspondingly increased.
