HOLIDAY ACCIDENTS.
CLERGYMAN DROWNED. CAUGHT IN RIVER CURRENT. VAIN ATTEMPT AT RESCUE. (By Telegraph.—Press Association.) GISBORNE, Wednesday. The Rev. A. A.. Barharn, curate of Holy Trinity Church, was drowned.this afternoon in the Rere River. Mr. Barliam was picnicking with three boys, and they all went in for a swim. Mr. Barliam walked across the river, which is about 30yds wide. On returning he was seen to be in difficulties, being carried along by the current. Three times he went under and came up again. One of the boys secured a. hold on Mr. Barham, but could not retain it, and he disappeared. His body was recovered some time later. Mr. Barham came to Gisborne direct from England just over two years ago, and was very popular in church circles, especially with the younger folk. He was about 32 years of age and unmarried. He had 110 relatives in the Dominion.
BOY'S BODY IN BATHS.
DROWNING NOT NOTICED. (By Telegraph.—Press Association.) CHRISTCHURCH, Wednesday. The body of Robert Anderson Robertson, seven years, was found in the Phillipstown school baths last evening. He had been noticed paddling in the shallow end earlier in the day, but left with his companions.- No one noticed his return, and the tragedy was not discovered until his' parents instituted a search.
MOTOR CAR OVERTURNS.
OCCUPANTS ESCAPE LIGHTLY. (By Telegraph.—Own Correspondent.) HAMILTON, Wednesday. , A motor car overturned on the main Hamilton-Cambridge Road early . this evening. A passenger, Mr. T. K. H. I Walbran, of Hamilton, was slightly I injured. The driver and owner of the car, Mr. V. P. Pole, of Hamilton, and the other passenger, Mr. G. LW. Thompson, also of Hamilton, escaped injury. The hood and windshield were considerably damaged.
