SANDERS CUP.
BETTY REPRESENTS ! . CANTERBURY. I CREW NOT SELECTED. r (By Telegraph.—Press Association.) CHRISTCHURCH, this day. Betty has been nominated to support Canterbury's challenge* for the Sanders Cup. At a meeting of the executive of the Sailing and Power Boat Association last evening I. G. Treleaven was appointed skipper. Treleaven has sailed as spinnaker hand for Canterbury at four contests, three times in Betty, and once in Colleen. He skippered Betty in the Smith Cup race at Stewart Island in 1928, and sailed her ifi one cup race at Lyttelton in 1927. He has a long successful record in club races around Christchurch. Treleaven is probably the youngest man ever to be given charge of a provincial representative at a Sanders Cup contest. The selection of the crew has been deferred. Betty won the third trial race on Saturday, proving superior to last year's representative, Colleen, both on and off the wind. The new suit of sails ordered by G. Andrews, her owner, is due to aiTive shortly, and should greatly improve Betty's chance. The sailing association decided to support strongly the proposal to form a ■Dominion body to control outboard motor hoat racing.
