"HIS ONLY TROUBLE."
LABOURER'S DRINKING HABITS. THEFT OF WINE. A bottle of wine, valued at 2/6, led Thomas Kerslake, a labourer, aged 49, into the Police Court this morning, when he was charged with breaking and entering the house of Millicent Agnes Clifford, of Manawa Road, Remuera.
On the chief detective's recommendation the charge was reduced to one of theft, it being alleged that Kerslake had stolen <a bottle of wine from the cellar.

At two o'clock in the morning he had gone back to the house to get his overcoat, he said, but he had then forced the lock of the cellar door and had stolen a bottle of wine.
"Drink is this man's one and only trouble," said Mr. Noble in defence. "He has a prohibition order out against him." Accused was convicted and discharged.
