ROTORUA NOTES.
Mr. and Mrs. E. Westlake, of Te Puke, were in Rotorua during the week. Miss Nea Jervis, of Wellington, has been on a visit to Rotorua. Mr. and Mrs. W. Graham, who have been staying at Grande Vue while in Rotorua, have returned to their home at Ngakaroa, Ormond. Miss L. Hawkesworth has returned from Wellington. Mrs. Bray has returned to Wanganui after visiting Rotorua and Taupo. On Wednesday evening, at St. John's Hall, the annual* general meeting of parishioners of St. John's Presbyterian Church, Rotorua, was held, when there was a large; representative attendance. The hall was arranged with delphiniums, yellow daisies and copper beech, and a dainty supper provided. During the evening the opportunity was taken to bid farewell to Mr. and Mrs. L. Woollia.ms r .and Miss Annie Woolliams, who leave"early in January on a trip to England. Brief speeches were made by the the Rev. A. C. Rauderson and Mr, W. Hill, referring specially to Mrs. Woolliams. Mr. Randerson, on behalf of the parishioners, presented Mr. and Mrs.' Woolliams with a suede pokered travelling cushion, and wished them a pleasant voyage and safe return. Mr. Woolliams replied thanking the donors for their gift and good wishes ' and the speakers for the kind things said.
On Friday evening the sports committee of the Rotorua High and Grammar School held a successful plain and fancy dress dance and progressive SUO tournament at the Majestic Cabaret, the proceeds being in aid of the sports fund. The excellent dance music was supplieu by the Melody Boys' Orchestra, and a dainty supper was provided. The decorative scheme for the supper tables was carried out with the school colours, red and blue streamers, and shaded Iceland poppies arranged in the school - silver trophies. Prizes for cards were won by Mrs. Isdale arid Mr. D. Williams. The Monte Carlo waltz prizes were won by Miss P. Wallace and Master M. Isdale. The judges for the fancy costumes were Miss B. Evans • and •' Mr. Nelson, who awarded' prizes to the following:— Girls: Best costume, W. Dolemore, Early Victorian, 1; most original, D. Basley, fountain peri, 1. Boys: B. Dawson, as Zulu, .1 , for best costume; most original, R.VBrooker, as Roman warrior, 1. Tiny tot's: Betty Keane as a peasant girl; Trevor Ford as an Indian. Other fancy costumes were:—Girls: G. Mclsaac, gipsy; E. Howard, Eastern girl; D. Simmonds, drummer girl; C. Greenland, bouquet of roses; W. Dolemore, Early Victorian. Boys: R. Dawson, Zulu; H. Steele, rajah; F. Spedding, Spanish; Des Fowkes, sleepless 1 nights; Don Fowkes, Sherlock Holfnes; S. Lowrey, walking the floor; Olga Louden, Mexican; Tess Williams, Eastern lady; Etta Lillis, radio; W. Merton, fuchsia; T. Haughton, seeds; B. Shai-pe, - Alaskan; J. Ford, autumn; E. Kelso, Spaniard; 0. Dalgliesh, blue bird; Misses S. Wilson, J. Buddie, E. Clark, P. Brooker, M. McLean and E. Henderson were all dressed as cricketers. The guests were received by Mr. and Mrs. A. R. Ryder, Mrs. Ryder wearing black panne velvet, with Spanish shawl. Others present were:—Mesdames E.
