GERMAN THOROUGHNESS.
REV. D. C. BATES IMPRESSED,
(By Telegraph.—Own Correspondent.)
WELLINGTON, Tuesday.
The Rev. D. C. Bates returned to Wellington to-day after his visit to Europe as the New Zealand representative to the International Meteorological Conference. There was one outstanding impression gleaned from a glance round the conference table, said Mr. Bates, and confirmed by visits to Germany, and that was the Germans' eagerness for knowledge and their almost stoical fight for trade development and prosperity. Six representatives from Germany attended the conference, although their voting strength was only one. That, he thought, was sufficiently indicative of their search for first-hand knowledge of everything.
