OPIUM FOUND BY POLICE.

LAUNDRYMAN FINED. (By Telegraph.—Own Correspondent.) CHRISTCHURCH, Tuesday. Min Ton, a laundryman, aged 27, was to-day fined £30 and costs, in default two months' imprisonment with hard labour, on a charge of being found in possession of prepared opium. Mr. C. 0. Trownson, acting-collector of Customs, said a police raid had been made on accused's house in Colombo Street. In a cupboard had been found au opium lamp and in a bedroom a pair of opium scales were discovered. Eight sinall jars for containing opium were found in the backyard, but they were empty. In the wash-house, however, a pot almost full of the drug had been discovered. Accused had denied all knowledge of the presence of opium on his premises.
