BEST PIGS SHADE FIRMER
Messrs. Dalgety and Company, Limited, Hamilton, report having held their usual weekly stock sale at Frankton saleyards on Tuesday, December 10, ars unaer:— There was a large yarding of beef. Competition was weak at the beginning of the sale, but towards the end prices were on i a par with last week's. Prime mediumweight bullocks sold at up to £14 7/6, others £12 15/ to £13 10/. Prime quality heifers made up to £10 ordinary heavy cows, £9 5/ to £10 5/; inferior and aged weighty cows, £8 to £8 17/6; light cows and heifers, £5 10/ to £7 2/6. There was a large yarding of store cattle and competition was keen at full late rates, and sold under the hammer as under:—One pen Friesian bullocks, forward condition, £10 12/; one pen Jersey cross grown bullocks, £9 13/; two pens of good quality 3-4-year bullocks, £10 4/; one pen 2-year Hereford steers, £9; pen 2-year-old P.A. steers, £9 1/; one pen P.A. steers, £7 19/; one pen Jersey cross 2 and 3-year-steers, £7 4/; one pen ditto, £6 13/; one pen 2-year Friesian cross steers, £6 14/; one pen 2-year Shorthorn steers, £7 5/; one pen Shorthorn and Hereford steers, £7; one pen Hereford yearling steers, £6 6/; one pen Friesian steers, £5 17/6; one pen Jersey cross yearling steers, £4 19/; one pen ditto, £4 9/; one pen Shorthorn yearling steers, £5 11/;one pen small yearling steers, £4 8/. There was a large yarding of fat sheep, for which competition was moderate. Best shorn wethers sold at up to 28/; fat wethers, 27/; small fat wethers, 25/6; heavy fat ewes sold at up to 20/; prime heavy lambs made up to 25/6; others, 23/; unfinished, 16/ to 18/; aged shorn ewes with lambs at foot sold at 16/9 all counted. There was a medium yarding of fat pigs with a full entry of stores. Best pigs were a shade firmer, whilst stores were equal to ruling rates. Best baconers, £3 17/ to £4 3/; medium ditto, £3 9/ to £3 12/; best porkers, £2 12/ to £3; light porkers, £2 3/ to £2 8/; choppers, £2 14/ to £3 3/; large stores, £1 19/ to £24/; medium stores, £1 13/ to £1 16/; slips, £1 8/ to £1 16/; best weaners, £12/ to £17/; small weaners, 17/ to 19/.
