LOCAL BODIES.

NEW LYNN BOROUGH COUNCIL. An ordinary meeting of the New Lynn Borough Council was held last evening. The Mayor, Mr. C. F. Gardner, presided. Titirangi Road.—A letter was received from the Main Highways Board accepting the main points of the Titirangi Road reconstruction proposals. In view of the fact that tlie proposed Work is not provided for in the current yeal'e highway estimates, tho council decided to ask the board to define the .position atid also to ask whether the b6ard was prepared to subsidise the construction of Cesspits and pipe drains, and the lowering of water mains. Stock Route.—The chairman of the works committee was authorised to confer with the Glen Eden Town Board and representative members of the Waitemata County Council 011 the adoption of a stock route through the above districts. Water Consumption.—Letters were received from a -number of residents outside the council's boundary in respect to water supply charges. The council decided that the arrangements under which the Water is supplied must stand. In all Cases where prompt payment i 6 not made the supply will be cut off.

Foreman's Report.—The Works foreman reported on the completion of the contract of sealing the shoulders of the concrete main highway. With the exception of a short stretch where one or two slight depressions existed owing to heavy rain falling before the material had become consolidated, everything was satisfactory. The report covered the maintenance costs of roads and footpaths during the past month, which amounted to £212 10/2.

Whau Bridge Conference—The council received intimation from Several local bodies'interested in the construction of a new bridge over the Whau Creek, that they were sending delegates to the conference to-morrow evening at the Town Hall A letter received from the Auckland Automobile Association conveyed tlie result of the tally taken on November 2 between 7 a.m. and 11.30 p.m. The number of vehicles that passed over the bridge during that period Was 2133, exclusive of bicycles.

Bus Time-table.—The Auckland Bus Company submitted for the council's approval an improved time-table in which the majority of feeder services are cut oiit and replaced by through trips to the city. The council approved of the alterations to the service.

Christmas Pictures. —Application to show suitable pictures on Christmas Day "was received from Mr. Oakley Browne. The council gave its approval subject to. the picture being approved of by Messrs. Shanly and Lawson.

Sanitary Drainage.—The sanitary inspector reported that 15 drainage connections bad been made during tho fortnight, at a cost of £216.

Traffic.—The traffic inspector reported considerable increase in traffic on the Great North Road, especially at weekends. The number of licenses issued to date totalled 534. The danger of children with trolleys on the Great North Road was referred to by a member of the council, who instanced one particular case where the driver of a vehicle endangered ihis own life in avoiding a, child with a trolley on the wrong side of the road. The inspector stated that he was' endeavouring to keep all children OIT the road, advising them, to use the footpath. It was decided to consider th-a framing of a by-law dealing with the situation.
