ANNIVERSARY REGATTA.
! CHANGING POSITION OF FLAGSHIP. STANLEY BAY SITE BETAINEE ELECTION OF RACING OFFICIALS. A meeting of the Auckland Anniver sary Regatta Committee was held las evening in the Navy League rooms Customs Street West, Mr. E. B. Webste: presiding over a very good attendanci of members, including Captain Willian Ross, who has been actively connectec with Auckland's oldest aquatic functioi for over 50 years. A letter was received from the office; commanding the naval base notifying the committee that H.M. warships Dun edin, Veronica and Laburnum would b< in port on Anniversary Day, and acced ing to the committee's request for assis tance and participation in naval events A tender for programme rights was accepted, subject to programmes beinj on sale at stated places and with busl ness firms, which will be advertised. It was decided to commence an active canvass for funds immediately after the holidays. The usual circular appeal tc subscribers will be sent out at once. The question of removing the poeitior of the flagship from off Stanley Bay tc Hobson Bay was again discussed. The chairman held that the Hobson Bay site was less in the way of harbour traffic and would enable the waterfront road to be used to advantage to view the events. With the prevailing wind, smooth water was always to be got there. Captain Ross supported the removal to Hobson Bay, which had many advantages over the present site off Calliope Dock.
Mr. B. W. Beaumont strongly sup ■ ported the retention of the present aitt which, he said, had been used with ver; little variation ever since the inceptio: of the regatta. With the flagship oi Stanley Bay, the starts and finishe could be seen from almost any part o the harbour. This did not apply to Hob son Bay. The waterfront road was no yet fully open to traffic and he propose* that the present site be retained. Tin motion was carried by a big majority.
