WHANGAREI NOTES.
Mr. and Mrs. L. Crane, of Powhiri Avenue, have left to reeide in Auckland. Mrs. Rule and Miss Margie Mackay visited Auckland during the week-end to see "The Desert Song." Mrs. Rochfort, Powhiri Avenue, has returned home after an enjoyable holiday epent in Christchurch. Mrs. Hall is on a visit to Auckland. Mrs. Bennett and Miss Peggy Northover, Main's Avenue, are spending a holiday in Wanganui. Mrs. Benjamin has returned from a short visit to Auckland. Mrs. Jolly, Mrs. Iggleston and Miss Sangeter, of Wellington, are visiting Whangarei, and are among the guests at the Settlers Hotel. Mre. and Mies Eadcliffe are spending a short holiday in Auckland. Mr. and Mrs. Storey (Te Awamutu) are' on a visit to Whangarei. Mrs. H. C. Logan (Otahuhu) is visiting her sister-in-law, Mrs. C. V. Stringer, Mill Road. Mise Archer, who has been spending a holiday with her parents in Norfolk Street, has returned to Wellington. Mrs. Archer accompanied her daughter to Auckland for a few days. Miss Beryl Murray has returned to Whangarei after spending a holiday in Auckland. Mrs. Foster, Graham Street, 1 is spending a holiday in Auckland. Miss Jean Rennie has resigned from the staff of the Whangarei High School, and leaves at the end of the year to take a position at the Diocesan Girls' High School, Auckland. Mrs. Deweebury and Miss Hosking, who have been visiting Mre. Walker, Main's Avenue, have returned home to Auckland. Mies Madge Simmons has returned from a six weeks' holiday spent in Australia. In the revue, "Sammy's Fortune," being produced here at present by Mr. Percy Everett, to raise funds for the Hockey and Rowing Associations, the principal roles are sustained by Mies Effie Lβ Ruez, Miss Jessie Somerville, Mies Marie Watson, Miss Grace Good and Mies Freda Skellern. A local motion picture entitled "A Daughter of Whangarei," is being filmed here at present. Miss Gwen Hosking is cast for the title role. ° An enjoyable tennis afternoon was held at Mrs. James , , Kensington Avenue, on Friday last for Miss L. Taylor, in honour of her approaching marriage. After afternoon tea Miss Taylor opened her many gifts, and expressed her gratitude for them. Among the ladies present ewere Mesdames James S. Weston, Towers, I. Weaver, Carter, Wallbank, and Misses L. Taylor, Mangos, I. Lundon, R. Cane, Bridgford, McPhee' M. Taylor, and D. Wright. A very enjoyable dance was held in the Portland Hall on Friday night to raise funds for Mrs. Cyril Powell's candidature as hockey queen in the queen carnival. A substantial sum was raised by it.
