The non-payment of wages, coupled ' with dislike of the order to proceed with the Canton fight against the revolting "Ironside" troops precipitated a mutiny in the regiment of the 24th Division of the Nationalist Army, commanded by General Sliih Yu-san at Pukow, opposite Nanking, to-day. Tlie soldiers looted the shops in the principal streets and fled to surrounding districts. Other troops were called . in to quell the mutiny. This resulted in considerable shooting on the outskirts of Pukow. A number ' of civilians were killed, and several houses were burned. The Pukow-Nan-king ferry service is suspended. A report states that last evening the initial lighting for the possession of Canton commenced in earnest. Wounded men are arriving at Canton. Reinforcements are being rushed by the Cantonese Government, which sent an order to strengthen the resistance. The French Government have presented a memorandum in terms similar to those presented by Britain and the United States to the Chinese and Soviet Governments, calling their attention to the latter's obligations under the Kellogg Pact in connection with the situation in Manchuria.
