VACATION FROM PRISON.
Aii aiiimftl two weeks' vacation from prison is planned as one of the latest penal reforms for Prussia. A half-way stage between imprisonment and freedom has been arranged by which convicts may become gradually read'apted to life in a normal community, much as a deepsea diver is gradually returned to normal air pressure after a, visit to the depths.
By a new ruling the prisoners will also be classified into groups according to their "capacity for education,", the degree of their crimes and the length of their sentences.
Judge Geiitz, of the Prussian Ministry of Justice, in explaining the new law, said that in the half-way stage to freedom the last few months of a prisoner's sentence may be spent in apprenticeship to a tradesman in hid chosen line of work, outside the prison, so that his days will be passed on parole and only his nights in the cell or prison dormitory.
The two weeks' animal vacation is planned only for long-term prisoners with exceptionally good record?.
