REFUSED DUTY.
Charged with having refused to obey the lawful commands of the master on various dates on the high seas between Panama and Auckland, Samuel Murray, fireman on the C. and D. Lino steamer Port Darwin, appeared before Mr. F. K. Hunt, S.M., in the Police Court this afternoon.
The master of the Port Darwin, Captain I. R. Sawbridgc, produced certificates from two Auckland doctors stating that the accused was fit for light duties, such as chipping, painting and polishing. Following his refusal to work, Murrftv had been mustered before him every morning, but had persistently refused to turn to.
The accused stated that he had done duty as firemen's peggy for three days, but could not continue, as he had rheumatism in his arms and legs.
Murray- wag remanded until to morrow.
