ROLL OF HONOUR.

AUCKLAND WAR MEMORIAL. GOOD RESPONSE TO APPEAL. THEIR EXCELLENCIES' DONATION. An excellent response continues to be received to the appeal for funds to provide a roll of honoflr at the War Memorial Museum. The decision of the Auckland Returned Soldiers' Association that a record of the names and units of the men from the Auckland Province who gave their lives in the cause of freedom should be prepared has met with enthusiastic support from all classes of the community.

A sum of between £3500 and £4000 will be needed. Permission has been obtained by the Returned Soldiers' Association to erect a large inscribed scroll in the central court of the museum building, where it will be a lasting tribute to the glorious dead, and an individual and personal record.

The "Auckland Star" opened a subscription list immediately the decision to appeal for funds was made known, and the fund was inaugurated with £100. Donations may be handed in at the "Star" office. Those sent by post or messenger should be enclosed in envelopes marked "801 l of Honour Fund," and addressed to the manager. Every subscription will be acknowledged daily. As the appeal is essentially of a representative character, it is hoped that it will be supported in every part of the Auckland Province. Subscriptions may be handed in to "Star" agents in ail country centres, and they will be forwarded to this office and duly acknowledged. A notable addition to the Returned Soldiers' Association's list received today was a donation of £10 from the Governor-General and Lady Alice Fergusson.
