FORCED TO RETURN.

AIR OFFICERS IN MOTH. Heavy rain encountered. LANDING IN A PADDOCK. (By Telegraph.—Press Association.) ASHBURTON, this day. Wing-Commander S. Grant-Dalton and Captain' M. Buckley, officer commanding the Wigram Aerodrome, landed at Ashburton after being forced to return from the South. . They left Wigram at 6.30 this mornmg in a Moth 'plane with the intention of flying to Duhedin. They ran into heavy rain at Hampden, where they had difficulty in picking up the cliffs, and landed in a paddock for half an hour. Being then wet through they set off on their return, landed near Oamaru and - came on to Ashburton, where they landed the plane's tank almost empty. Captain Buckley said they had not su'fficient petrol left to taxi across the aerodrome. They left for Wigram early in the aitemoon.
