WEDDINGS EN MASSE. Child Marriages. On The Boom In India. RUSH BEFORE BAN OPERATES. (United P.A.—Electric Telegraph-Copyright) (Received 9.30 a.m.) DELHI, November 27. Owing to the Act forbidding child marriages, passed by the Legislative Assembly, not coming into operation until April, children are being married en masse at Bombay at present.
Two thousand are being married in Surat alone. The ->boom has already led to the demand for exorbitant dowries, and the money-lenders at Gujarat are said to be doing a roaring business.
