CHURCH MEETINGS.

ST. JOHN'S, PAPATOETOE,

The seventy-fifth annual meeting of St. John's Presbyterian Church, Papatoetoe, was held last evening. The Rev. T. H. Roseveare presided. Reports covering a period of 16 months showed the progress of the various organisations of the church.

The names on the church membership roll had increased to 226, which was double the membership at the time of the present minister's induction, six years ago. During the year Messrs. W. Low and W. G. Whyte had been appointed to the session to fill the vacancies caused by the deaths of Messrs. M. Galloway and G. Fergy. Jubilee celebrations had been held in August and the report stated that the Otahuhu and' Howick Church districts and the Mangere, Mariurewa and Panmure home mission stations had been formed in the area originally included in. the Papatoetoe charge. A total amount of £1466 had been raised for church work. The debt on the church had been reduced, stated the manager's report, by £400, which included £200 from the estate of the late Mr. D. Finlay. The debt was now £1450. A sum of £156 had been raised by the ladies' social committee. Two tennis courts had been constructed at a cost of £110. Messrs. J.Eccles, A. E. Meikle, P. E. Suttie and A. A. Swaffield were reelected managers, and Mr. W. Young was elected to fill'a vacancy. New scholars enrolled in the Sunday school numbered 40. Miss Helen Anderson had won one of the special prizes presented by the Presbytery for the assembly examinations. The financial statement showed that over £334 had been raised by the church for mission work. The reports and accounts were adopted. On the recommendation of the managers it was decided to increase the minister's stipend from £350 to £400. An address was delivered by the Rev. John Hubbard, M.A., 8.D., of Drury, A recitation was given by Miss Leah Roseveare and a vocal duet by Mrs. F. E. Carr and Miss Bertha Wyllie.
