AMATEUR ATHLETICS.
MEETING AT PAPATOTOE. An evening athletic meeting was held by the Papatoeioe Atheltic and Cycle Club on Tuesday on the local recreation ground The following were the results:— 75 Yards Handicap.—C. Anderson, oyds, 1; V. R. Smytheman, scr, and D. F. Gardiner, lyd (dead heat), 2. Won by a yard. Ten started.
880 Yards Handicap.—R. McKenzie, 15yds, 1; C. Anderson,, 10yds, 2;. L. C. Barker, 25yds, 3. Fourteen started. Time, 2.19 3-5. Swelling (limit) went out fast, Barker going after him, and putting a good break on the field. In the second lap Anderson- -went after the leaders, closely followed by McKenzie. A furlong from home Anderson was leading by two yards, Barker running into third place. McKenzie and Anderson entered the straight together, and, in a great finish, McKenzie won by two yards. Barker was close up. The club is taking a team to the Lvnndale sports at New Lynn on Saturday, December 7, leaving Papatoetoe Town Hall at 1.30 u.m. Members making the trip and intending to compete should hand in their nominations at Papatoetoe.
