HALLIBURTON-JOHNSTONE CROQUET CLUB.

The official opening of the HalliburtonJohnstone Croquet Club was held on 1 Saturday, November 23. The weather being ideal, there was a large gathering present to witness the opening of the new lawns. Other Auckland clubs were well represented, among them the Mount Hobson, Mount Albert, Grey Lynn, New Lynn, Avondale and Henderson Clubs. Mr. Phillips (croquet representative) welcomed the visitors. The president of the Bowling and Tennis Clubs (Mr. Neilson and Mrs. Croolcbain) passed very complimentary remarks on the progress of the new club and wished them every possible success.' Mr. Phillips then called upon the president of the Croquet Club (Mrs. Boag) to open the green. The first hoop being negotiated successfully with a mallet presented by Mr. Erank Wiseman, Mrs. Phillips unfurled the new flag presented to the club by herself. Progressive croquet was played during the afternoon under the capable management of Mrs. Robertson and Mrs. Dawson. The prizes were won by Mrs. Edwards, Mount Albert (A grade); and Mrs. Sharpe, Mount Albert (B grade). Afternoon tea was then dispensed to the visitors and members of the Bowling and Tennis Clubs in the large social hall of the combined clubs. The tables were tastefully decorated in silver and maroon, the club colours.
