MOTORIST PUNISHED.
"TOOK RUM FOE A COLD."
(By Telegraph.—Press Association.)
ASHBURTON, this day.
William Wilson, of Riverside, was fined £30 to-day for being intoxicated while in charge of a motor car. He was also prohibited from taking out a driver's license for three years. Counsel said Wilson had been affected by rum taken owing to a very bad cold. He did not drive while under its influence.
Mr. Orr-Walker, S.M., said he took a serious view, because of previous convictions. Only his horror of sending a man to gaol prevented him imposing a sentence as a warning to others.
