RESIGNATIONS ASKED TOR

There was a new development this morning in connection with increasing the price of conceesion cards on the trams, Mr. Gray Campbell lodging the ■following notice of motion, with the town clerk: "That, in view of the increase in fares and the curtailment of services, the six nominees of the City Council be asked to tender their resignations to the secretary of the Auckland Transport Board, in order that the ratepayers of the city may be given an early opportunity of expressing, by means of an election, their approval or otherwise of the policy of the Transport Board." Mr. Campbell said that he had given notice of motion on the lines indicated so that the increased rates could be thoroughly discussed. It was pointed out this morning that the City Council had been given an opportunity by the Transport Board to disapprove of the proposed flat rate, but no such opportunity had been given in regard to the sudden increase in the price of tramway concession tickets.
