TOURIST LEAGUE PROPOSAL

COMMERCIAL ADVISORY BOARD.

GOVERNMENT HELP NEEDED.

At a meeting of the New Zealand Tourist League executive held 'last evening, it was decided to ask the Government to set up an advisory board of commercial men to act in a consulting capacity with the Tourist Publicity Department and the Railways Department with a view to developing the trade. The league has been pushing the matter for some time and is of the opinion that the Cabinet will give sympathetic consideration to the proposal. Owing to the absence of Sir Joseph Ward from the House, it is probable that the portfolio of Tourists and Health Resorts may be taken by another Minister. The advisory board would comprise representatives of the accommodation interests, motor transport services, travel agencies and tourist and progress leagues. Mr. George Finn, of the Tourist League executive, who has been in Wellington,, reported that he had made official representation to the Government regarding the proposal, and found that it was generally realised that a recasting of tourist business matters was needed.
