COAL PROBLEM.
LAW TO BE INVOKED. New Federal Prime Minister's Proposal. COMPULSORY CONFERENCE. (United P.A.—Electric Telegraph—Copyright) (Received 11.30 a.m.) CANBERRA, this day. Other measures having failed, the Federal Government proposes to invoke the provisions of the Industrial Peace Act in an attempt to settle the coal dispute, according to an announcement by Mr. J. H. Scullin, Prime Minister.
The Act is one the Brace Government proposed to abolish under the Maritime Industrie? Bill.
Mr. Scullin indicated that etcry legal and constitutional means would be explored in an endeavour to end the trouble. The first step will be to convene a. compulsory confeicnce of employers and employees.
It is learned that November 20 has been fixed as the opening date of the new Commonwealth Parliament. There is to be no elaborate ceremonial.
