MOUNT ROSKILL DRAINAGE.

THE WESTERN AREA. REPORT BY ENGINEER. Reporting to the Mount Roakill Borough Council last night on the western drainage area, Mr. J. Dawson, council engineer, said he had consulted Mr. Wright of the Auckland and Suburban Drainage Board, who thought there would be no objection to the exclusion of a portion of this area from the Drainage Board's district by running the drainage of properties, near the fire brigade station, back into the existing sewer near the Road Board office and discharging into the system already in operation into the Manukau Harbour, provided that the volume of the combined sewage and storm water already agreed upon, viz: 5000 cubic feet per minute, is not exceeded. The district engineer of the Public Works Department had also advised that if any amended scheme would prove more effective, and would not cost any more than the amount authorised for the original scheme, the Road Board should carry on with it. The same authority did not think that the Local Bodies Loans Board would ask for another poll of ratepayers merely on account of altering the lav but from the original plans, 6uch as was now proposed. Mr. Dawson, who was present, said it I would not be necessary to exclude any: portion of the area 'to complete the drainage. Mr. Tansley moved, and it was agreed, that the properties named be drained into the Drainage Board's area as provided for in the original plan, and to seek the consent of the Loans Board to certain other minor alterations in the original scheme a 6 suggested by Mr. Dawson.
