PAPATOETOE TOWN BOARD
The Papatoetoe Town Board met last evening, the chairman, Mr. T. R. Smytheman, presiding.
Band Rotunda.—Extensive improvements on the recreation reserve at the rear •of the Town Hall had been made preparatory to the erection of a band rotunda, reported the foreman, Mr. N. M. Thomson. The 'board decided to plant the area an grass next autumn. Mr. Sorenson 6aid •the building of the rotunda would be undertaken during November.
Domain Improvements.—At the request of the Amateur Athletic and Cycle Club, it was decided to prepare running tracks on the Domain area by steam roller. Consideration of a similar request by the Cricket Club for the preparation of cricket pitches was deferred. Repail-s to Footpaths.—A recommendation was made by the chairman of the works committee, Mr. E. S. Sorenson, that the board should make arrangements with the contractors for the waterworks reticulation, Messrs. Gosse and Mullen, and the service connections, Messrs. Forrest Bros., for a deduction from the amount of the contracts, in return for which the contractors should be released from the obligation of paving the roads and footpaths where damage had been caused. The recommendation was adopted. The' chairman said the contractors would be required to maintain the levels on the routes of the mains for three months from the date of completing the work.
Dingwall Orphanage.—Application was made by the Dingwall Presbyterian Orphanage Trust Board for a water supply from the mains, for the use of the newly erected Dingwall Orphanage. It was the Trust Board's desire to have a 2%in supply pipe connected from the end of Konini Street. The new buildings would be occupied about the end of the year and there would be accommodation for 60 children, and, in addition, the necessary staff. It was decided to advise the Dingwall Trust Board that a water supply would be provided, the question of cost to be discussed later.
Continuous Telephone -Service. —The board decided to congratulate the Chamber of Commerce upon the success of its efforts to obtain the sanction of subscribers to a continuous telephone service.
Traffic Domes. —The secretary of the Auckland Automobile Association, Mr. G. W. Hutchinson, wrote stating that ai patrol officer, when on duty on a recent Sunday, prevented a motor smash at the intersection of the Great South Road and Station Road, and he asked that the traffic domes at this intersection be moved to the centre of the street and set back to the building alignment, to make the intersection safer. The same conditions applied at the intersection of Station Road and Ivolmar Road, and the association repeated a suggestion previously made for the substitution of white lines where the street surface permitted. It was decided to obtain a report from the traffic inspector.
