MINE MANAGERS' REPORTS. Golden Age.—The mine manager reports that the drive on Fox's leader has been extended 12ft. The leader is now over 12in wide, and a splendid class of gold-bearing andesite is showing on both walls. The ore shows a little mineral and silica. New Shotover. —Good progress Is being shown on the New Shotover claim now being worked by Mr. W. White at the mouth of the Kuranui Creek, Thames. After cutting through the finely ground tailings, which are the deposits of recent years, the operations have disclosed a bank of very heavilv mineralised tailings about six feet below the surface. Up to the present this layer lias been traced down to a depth of 15ft, the tailings getting coarser as they go down. The present plant has produced six tons of concentrates with only one ejector in use. This week it is intended to use another Sor?ff° r ? tab l es ' ? nd °I ,CU «P a farther 300 ft of ground. As soon as the School of Mines battery has installed the new berdans, and is ready to take the concentrates. the first clean up will take place Assay value of the concentrates reveal ever 30/ a ton. A start was made 011 Saturday with the laying of tram lines for the easier handling of the tailings, and should good values continue extra plant will be installed.
