AUCKLAND HARBOUR.
ESTIMATES FOR THE YEAR.
In the estimates for the year ending September 30, 1930, submitted to the Auckland Harbour Board at its meeting yesterday afternoon, the ordinary revenue was put down at £386,000 and the total at £521,388. The new works provided for, but not yet authorised, are Freeman's Bay viaduct, £67,500; launchlandings and offices, eastern section of viaduct, £1500; lay-by and repair wharf, North Wall, £5000; pile-making crane, £4000. New works awaiting authorisation include new building for the waterside workers, £15,000; electrification of Rangitoto beacon £1500. North cote Wharf. —Mr. A. E. Greenslade was disappointed that no provision had been made in the estimates for an up-to-date concrete wharf at Northcote, on the lines of the Devonport wharf. The chairman (Mr. M. H. Wynyard) explained that in view of the fact hat a commission had been set up to go into the question of a harbour bridge the board could hardly consider the question of a new wharf at Northcote at the present juncture. Launch Steps.—The engineer's suggestion to erect launch steps and accommodation for the launchmen outside the northern breastworks of the viaduct and adjoining Prince's wharf, at a cost or £1500, was approved. The amount was provided for in the estimates.
