VICAR'S RESIGNATION.

NO COMPLAINT OF

INTERFERENCE,

DIFFERENCE ON POLICY,

(By Telegraph.-—Own Correspondent.)

HAMILTON, this day,

Asked to slate more fully liis reasons for resigning, the Rev. F. W. Wilkes, vicar of Morrinsville, said lie deprecated very much any attempt to make capital, one way or the other, of his resignation. He just did not see eye to eye on policy matters with Bishop Cherrington, who was carrying on in opposition to wishes of Synod, expressed in March last.

Mr. Wilkes said he wished to make it very clear that so far as he personally and his parish were concerned Bishop Cherrington had not interfered in the slightest degree. He had respected the rights and wishes of both the vicar and tho people of Morrinsville. There were reasons, however, which compelled a man some time or other to make a change, and he (Mr. Wilkes) felt that the present time was opportune to do so.
