NEW CONVENT SCHOOL.
FOR MATAMATA DISTRICT
FOUNDATION STONE LAID,
The foundation stone of the new convent school in the Matamata- district was laid by Bishop Cleaiy yesterday. The school is to be on a corner site fronting the Domain, and will be "of brick on a concrete foundation. It will be equipped with the most modern .furnishings and will accommodate 250 children. • Already applications for entry have been received on behalf of 130 Boman Catholic children in addition to a number of non-Catholics. The contract price for the school is £2550 and it is hoped to open the building on' January 31. A convent property
lias also been acquired close to the school site. This consists of a five-rocmed residence on a spacious section. Five nuns will reside there, and four will teach in the school. The other will devote herself to tlie teaching of music.
