SETTLED!
TRAMWAYS DISPUTE.
SUCCESSFUL CONFERENCE.
"DIPLOMACY AND JDSTICE."
An indication was given at a meeting
of the Auckland Transport Board this morning that the trouble between the board and the Tramways Union had been satisfactorily settled.
The chairman (Mr. J. A. (J. Allum) said that he had met representatives of the union, who assured the board that it was not the intention of tne union in passing the resolution objected to to discourage the board's employees from giving evidence when they were able to do so? The representatives of the union had stated that their duty was one which every employee should carry out conscientiously. Mr. Allum said that he had informed the union that the board had no desire to interfere with the domestic affairs of the union, and he felt confident that the board would accept the union's assurance and consider the incident closed. He recommended the board to close the incident and appoint the original assessors to negotiate for a new agreement with the union. Mr. A. J. Entrican said that the right thing had been done. Mr. F. S. Morton congratulated the parties. Mr. E. J. Phelan said that diplomacy and justice had been practised. The union had never intended to interfere with the course of justice. The Chairman: Nobody is more pleased than I am at the result. I think that the settlement of all matters in dispute will be arrived at. The report was adopted. The secretary of the Tramways Union (Mr. J. Liddell) said that he had no comment to make on the matter in the meantime, but intimated that the satisfactory conclusion had been arrived at primarily as the result of the intervention of the Alliance of Labour and the assistance of the secretary (Mr. J. Roberts).
