LAID TOTE ODDS.

AT YESTERDAY'S TROTS.

MARRIED WOMAN CAUGHT.

DAUGHTER ACTS AS PENCILLER.

"It was great impudence on.her part; evidently this woman thought she could lay wagers in front of the totalisator at the trots at Epsom yesterday," said Chief Detective Hammond, at the Police Court this morning, when a married woman, Alice Irvine, admitted that she laid totalisator odds on the Junction Handicap. Mr. Hammond added that accused lived with her husband at Ponsonby. She was present at Alexandra Park on Saturday making wagers. Yesterday she was there again doing silver betting, and while so engaged she was caught by two detectives. "The worst feature about this case is that her little girl was doing the pencilling for her," said the chief detective. "Her husband was also at the trots with her." Mrs. Irvine was fined £5.
