SLAUGHTERMEN'S PAY.
UNION MEETING TO-NIGHT,
There were no fresh developments to-day over the matter of the new award for slaughtermen at the city abattoirs and R. and W. Hellatjy's slaughtering house at Westfield. A meeting ol the union is to be held this evening to consider matters. The new award came into force this morning. Under the old award pig killers were paid on piece rates, and made very high wages in some cases. The new award puts pig killing under the heading "unskilled labour," and the pay is so much the hour.
