[With heavy rain falling through cut the night matters were anything hut promising far the conclusion of the Auckland Trotting Club's spring meeting this • afternoon. However, after breakfast the rain eased off, and beyond a couple of light showers the weather had cleared by the time the horses went out for the opening event. This is the first occasion there has been trotting at Alexandra Park of Labour Day, and the attendance, despite the wet ground ■underfoot, is large. The track is on the heavy side.

A Quick Return. Racing opened' with the Green Lane Handicap, for which all the acceptors went to the post. carrying ■£779, was first choice, with Linnet the Great ( £544) and Peterson ( £483) next 5h request. When they were dispatched Eva Reta- broke, and Tamahine led along the back, followed by Audo Spray, Tamahine, Linnet the Great and Eva Reta. Tamahine was still in front going past the stand from Linnett the Great, while Direct Action had run up [third. Along the back the second time, Tamahine just led Linnett the Great, with Peterson and Paradigm in close attendance. Tamahine was first into the straight, followed by Linnett the Great and Peterson. A great finish saw Linnett the Great win by a long head from Peterson, with Tamahine a head away in third place. Paradigm was eight lengths away fourth, with Direct Action and Golden Gate next. McKendrick Brothers only purchased the winner from trainer F. J. Smith on Saturday.

Favourite Scores. Cornelian was not paraded for the Newmarket Handicap, and the public made Belle Axworthy favourite, carrying £1070, with Queen Elizabeth (£1034) and Master Huia (£651) next in request. When the field had settled down Hohora was in front of Queen Elizabeth, Warspite, Belle Axworthy, and Ngahuia. Passing the stand Hohora was still in the lead, while Ngahuia had run up third, Warspite breaking and losing his .position. Across the top Queen Elizabeth and Belle Axworthy were together, with Hohora and Master Huia in close attendance. The first to turn for home were Queen Elizabeth, Belle Axworthy, Master Huia, and Hohora. Belle Axworthy finished best in the run home, and went on to win by one and a half lengths from Queen Elizabeth, who beat Master Huia by two lengths. Nella Dillon was fourth, followed by Hohora, Our Nancy, and Great Ballin.

Wrackler Again. 1411 started in the Alexandra Handicap, for which Wrackler found most support •with £1702, while Linkinan (£1340) and Jean McElwyn ( £1264) carried good support. At the start Native Prince and The Abbey both broke badly, and spoilt any chance they may have possessed. Jean McElwyn was the. first to show out, closely followed by Gold Deal, Great Delight, Wrackler, Torpedo Huon and Linkman. Passing' the stand the second time the field were all in a bunch, Jean McElwyn being a shade in front. Going along the back Jean McElwyn was still piloting the field, but there was only three lengths between the field, with the exception of The Abbey and Native Prince, who were tailed off. Wrackler was first to turn for home from Torpedo Huon, Jean McElwyn and Linkman. Wrackler went on to win comfortably by one and a half lengths from Linkman, who beat Torpedo Huon by two lengths. Gold Dial was fourth, the next to finish being Jean McElwyn, Great Delight and Native Prince. The Abbey Avas pulled up.

Reremai was withdrawn, from the Junction Handicap. Sunehower was made a warm favourite, £1270 being invested on Lis chance. Hal Chiracs (£878) being next in request, while Rockburn carried £607. Passing the stand Warplane was piloting the field from Lord Nepean, Sunshower and Hal Chimes, with Explosion last. Coming in the straight Hall Chimes had run to the front; and led past the stand from Sunshower,;' Evelyn Locanda, Explosion, (who made up ground fast) and Warplane; the last three being bunched. Hal Chimes; broke going along the back, leaving Sunshower in front. Rock-burn led into the straight well clear.of Sunshower, 'the first-named' going on to win by' two lengths, with Explosion half a length away. Concertina was fourth, followed by Evelyn:''Locanda-and-\War-plane. . ' ' ;-■•
