ANIMAL BY-PRODUCTS.
NEW METHOD OF TREATMENT. DOING AWAY WITH SHELLS. . A new process for the economical manufacture of animal by-products will shortly be introduced to Auckland by the Northern Export Co., Ltd., who intend erecting a factory at Westfield immediately. One of the main features of the new process is the elimination of all odours and the utilising of all moisture. _ Under the present system in vogue it is alleged that a considerable amount of the profits goes down the drains, but with the new system of dry rendering nothing is wasted —not even the smell. At the factory about to be erected all the offal and shop waste of 80 Auckland butchers will be treated. The Northern Export Co., Ltd., who are sponsoring the scheme, act as a butchers' marketing as-; sociation, 90 per cent of tlieir shareholders j being butchers. »i At this factory also many parts of the! animals at present treated as manure will be saved, and special machinery will be j erected to deal with these, not only from j the local abbatoirs, but from other works.■ This factory will be of three storeys, | facing the Great South Road, at Westfield. j
