Mrs. R. G. Coats was hostess at a very enjoyable morning tea given in the lounge of the Lyceum Club in honour of Mrs. Foster, who is a Wellington visitor to Auckland. Amongst those who were present were: Mrs.-Coats, Mrs. Gunn, Mrs. Maitland, Mrs. P. Crisp, Mrs. W. Boyle, Mrs. Lewis, Mrs. Cameron and Miss Quayle. * * * . * An informal croquet party was {riven on. the Auckland Lawns on Saturday afternoon, -as the official opening of this club takes place next Wednesday. Among the players were the president, Mrs! btevenson, who wore a frock of golden brown :inarooain, with brown hat, and Mesdames B. Keesing, Shanley, Coates, Pegler, Roff, Rainger, Bell, Daniels, Misses Coldicutt, Roach and Brown.

DEVONPORT.
The Devonport Tennis Club was opened on Saturday afternoon by Mr. E.. Aldridge, the Mayor, who was accompanied by Mrs. Aldridge. Mr. T. Macky, the president of the club, presented the trophies for last season's play as follow :—Ladies' championship singles, Miss M. Mason; ladies' handicap singles, Miss M. Mason; ladies'championship doubles, Miss M. Mason and Mrs. Hogan; ladies' handicap doubles, Miss Daines and Miss Taylor; men's championship singles, Mr. B. Macky; men's singles, Mr. B. Macky; championship doubles, Mrs. Alison and Mr. A. Harvey; men's handicap doubles, Messrs. G. H. Jones and A. White. Amongst those present: Mrs. Neville, Mrs. Bird, Mrs. T. Nash, Mrs. Morrison, Mrs. Hogan, Mrs. Roberts, Mrs. Hay, Mrs. Weir, Mrs. L. Prime, Mrs. Burnett,

TAKAPUNA. The official opening of the Takapuna Tennis Club took place on Saturday afternoon. The ceremony Avas performed by the Mayor, Mr. J. W.. Williamson, and Mrs. Williamson played the first ball over the.net. Before beginning the afternoon's play, a series of half-hour fames, Mrs. Williamson presented to the winners the trophies won last season. As winner of the ladies' championship singles, Mrs. Cadness; ladies' handicap singles, Mrs. Mowbray;' ladies' doubles, Miss G. Lorie and Mrs. Mowbray; combined doubles, Mrs. Mowbray and Mr. Neville Harrison; men's championship singles, Mr. N. Harrison; men's handicap singles, Mr. N. Harrison; men's doubles, Messrs. Wilson and Gamble. A dainty afternoon tea was served, the table decorations being particularly attractive with bowls of large Oriental poppies from Mrs. H. Everton's garden. Amongst the guests were: Mrs. Everton, Mrs Hitchcock (London), Mrs. Carnngton Mrs. Biss, Mrs. Best, Mrs. Griffin, Mrs Collinson, Mrs. Rollo, Miss Ireland, Miss A. Lowe, Miss E. Western, Miss Hitchcock, Miss G. Kenrick. Others present were: Mrs. Sutherland, Mrs. Jacobs, Mrs Bartrum, Mrs. J. Beatty,. Mrs. E. Wiseman, Mrs. P. M. Davidson, Miss N. Howe, Mrs. Martin, Mrs. Lush, Mrs. Mowbray, Mrs. O'Brien, Mrs. F. Freakes, Mrs C A. Crosher, Mrs. S. O'Neill, Mrs. Randall, Miss B. O'Neill, Miss G. Lorie, Miss M. King, Miss A. Payne.
MILFQRD. > The MUford Kitchener Park tennis courts were officially opened on' Saturday afternoon by Mr. J. W. Williamson, the Mayor, who was asked to perform the ceremony by Mr. Kingsford. In the opening remarks it was stated that, though a young club, it was so successful that "the members hoped to be able to erect a suitable pavilion very shortly. Mrs Williamson, the Mayoress, was called upon to play the first ball, and the courts were then fully occupied for the rest of the arternoon.
