Urn lashes and four months' imprisonment were 'meted one day in August by a..Port Elizabeth (Cape of Good Hope) magistrate to a. motorist found oiiilty of reckless driving, it was believed to be the heaviest sentence of its kind cvc>passed at the Cape. The motorist, whose name is Johnson, was said to have knocked a youno' woman down with his automobile. She clung to the radiator, but was finally dragged underneath and had to spend 12 days in a hospital to recover. The man, previously, had been convicted of 12 similar offences.
