BRUTAL ATTACK.
VITRIOL THROWING. Pretty Woman Disfigured By Corrosive Fluid. SENSATIONAL TRENCH TRIAL. (Australian Press Assn.—United Service.) (Received 10 a.m.) PARIS, October 16. The Assize Court is sitting at Albi, hearing an extraordinary case o£ vitriol throwing, involving persons of wealth and standing. • It is alleged that the attack was deliberately planned to get rid of the victim, Madame Holland, a pretty woman, who survived the terrible injuries to her face but was shockingly disfigured and lost an eye. A friend, Sylvain Gleizes, was driving her iu his motor car when he overtook a lorry on a deserted part of the road. The driver asked for aesistance. Rolland and Gleizes got out and suddenly the former screamed in agony as a quantity of the corrosive iluicl had been dashed in her face. The lorry thereupon drove off. The police were suspicious when they learned that Gleizes had taken a long time to find a hospital. Finally a witness said that she heard Gleizes and Roll<\nd's ex-lover, known as Aubes, the terror, arranging to pay 700,000 francs to two rascals to put her out of the way by throwing vitriol in her face. Both were concerned in murderous acts years ago. The trial has created a tremendous sensation.
