HAROLD PARK THOUSAND.

WON BY OUTSIDER. KITTY ADON GOES 3.22 1-5. . The Harold Park (Epping) Thousand, run on Wednesday of last week, resulted in a complete surprise, the winner turning up in the little fancied country perforpier Kitty Adon. Marble Ridge, the beit pacer in Sydney, was always favourite from the time the 'handicaps appeared, but he was unlucky in the race and through no fault of his own his prospects were ruined. Kitty Adon led from start to finish in both her division and in the final, in which she ran the distance, a mile and a half, in 3.22 1-5., nearly eight seconds better than her handicap. Kitty Adon is a five-year-old, and has now started in four races for as many wins. That made the performance all the more meritorious, for pacers do not usually strike their best form until they have had plenty of racing. What made the win more pleasing to the owner-trainer, J. H. Hogan, was that he had bred the mare. He owned the dam, who was by Lulu Boy from Lady Woodstock, a good performer, but due to an accident, was unable to race her. He was unlucky vrith her first foal, a big colt, who broke 'his neck, but although Kitty Adon is of email stature she is a pacer above the avera.ge. Kitty Adon was opposed to Marble Ridge, favourite for the race outright, in the first division. The heat was marred by an accident at the start, when Charming Jean and Machine King came into collision,, and Machine King, dislodging his driver, got out of control. He continued in the race, pacing perfectly, but came in so close to All Steel thatH. Cohen, driver of that horee, at considerable risk, was forced to push the sulky away. As Cohen was unable to avoid the driverless horee he took the. extreme step of turning over the empty sulky. This steadied Machine King, but unfortunately for backers of the favourite Marble Ridge, he swerved so much about the track that Marble Ridge had to be pulled up almost to a stop. This left the way easy for Kitty Adon, who won in 3.27. Towrang Boy won ttbe second division in 3.22 2-5, and Cleve Lynn ■•won the third in 3.26.
