The Takapuna Bopongh Council ■ mei last evening, the Mayor, Mr. J. W. Williamson, presiding.

Approach to Grammar School. —Mr. A. H.: Wilkie advised that the time was opportune to approach the Grammar authorities to deal with the question of the cutting back of the corner of St. Leonard's Road, and the grading of this road, and suggesting that the authorities be communicated with without delay with a view to improving conditions at the school entrance. It was agreed, to cooperate with the school authorities. Destructor Smoke.—The nuisance alleged to be caused by smoke and smell from the destructor was referred to by Mr. J. Guiriiven, who said the trouble "was probably caused by Imperfect combustion The Mayor said the joint destructor committee would meet next Monday, when the special report would be submitted. It was decided to refer Mr. Guiniven's letter to the committee.

Employing Local Men.—Mr. Guiniven drew attention to the practice of other local bodies in making the stipulation in all contracts that, where possible, local men should be, employed, and suggested that the practice should be adopted in the borough. On the motion of Mr. Wilkie it was decided to insert a clause in future contracts let by the council that, whereever- possible, local men should be employed. Sewerage Loan. —It'was decided to raise a further £18.000 on account of the sewerage, loan of £119.000. Dogs on Beaches. —It was decided that the borough solicitors be instructed to draw np a by-law" goTerndng the control of dogs on beae-hes._ Arrears'"of Rates.—The "town clerk reported that during the last three weeks £311- 2/8, arrears of rates, had been collected.
